Anti-Social Behaviour
We believe everyone has the right to enjoy living in their home provided they do not disturb those living nearby. We are committed to tackling issues relating to anti-social behaviour, harassment and neighbour nuisance. We expect good neighbours to be tolerant of one another and understand how their lifestyle can affect those living nearby.
What is antisocial behaviour?
The Home Office describes Antisocial Behaviour as, 'any aggressive, intimidating or destructive activity that damages or destroys another person's quality of life'. Antisocial behaviour can include a wide range of nuisances, disorder and crimes which affects people's lives on a daily basis. It can feel and look different; what might be considered anti-social by one person, might be considered acceptable to another.
Housing Based Antisocial Behaviour
Housing based Anti-Social Behaviour may involve various disruptive or harmful behaviours that occur within or near a residential property. Examples of such behaviours include:
· Neighbours causing a nuisance
· Inconsiderate or loud behaviour
· Abuse, harassment, or intimidation
· Drug-related activities taking place in or around the property
· Threats of violence or harm
· Domestic abuse (for council tenants)
Housing based antisocial behaviour should be reported to Pinnacle using the details at the bottom of this page.
Street Based Antisocial Behaviour
Street-based Anti-Social Behaviour involves issues that take place in public areas, including:
· Environmental crimes
· Begging or street soliciting
· Large or problematic gatherings
· Unlawful gambling on the streets
· Anti-social use of vehicles
· Rowdy and nuisance behaviour
· Criminal damage/vandalism and drug dealing
· Misuse of air guns and inappropriate use of fireworks
Anti-social behaviour is not babies crying, cooking smells, one off parties where there’s no evidence that the problem will reoccur, clash of lifestyles including cultural differences or different working patterns, children playing, everyday living noise, bonfires, parking issues and reasonable DIY activities.
Street based antisocial behaviour should be reported to Canning Town South or Custom House Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (depending on where the activity is taking place) by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency. If you are affected by antisocial behaviour it’s important that you report it, either to the Police or Pinnacle.
In many cases, antisocial behaviour is complex and falls into a number of categories. If you’re in doubt as to who to speak to, please contact your housing office on 020 3701 3658, pinnacle@newham.gov.uk or in person at Unit 2, Nelson Street Studios, Nelson Street, E16 1DS
